The Dating Quandary: Trying to Find Love @ 47

When you’re 47 you are more long-term oriented. You’re looking for something stable. Gone are your days of “Wham-bam, thank you Ma’am” (knowing your prickly conscience that’s something most unlikely to have happened to you).

So while you are looking for something stable, something meaningful, the world out there has other ideas, other intentions.

Every other person you meet is either looking for a good time, short-term fun, as they term it, just not ready for love!

The ones that indicate that they are open to long-term are more interested at being friends and with all the benefits that come with it, but with a caveat, don’t fall in love with them. They are open to anything and everything besides love. They are willing to connect if there’s a vibe, but they are not looking for a relationship of the romantic kind.

And then you have the married and partnered folks, who you invariably cross paths with.

Somewhere you know you need to respect this cause even though it’s not the thing you maybe looking for, it’s their choice and their life and they get to choose, and the right to do so, what they want to do in and with their life.  It’s not for you to judge their choices (and by “their” I mean everyone who I love mentioned so far).

And then there are those who are looking for the same thing as you are but just not the ones you are looking for.

So you have a quandary of whether you brood and pout and feel low and sorry for yourself that you don’t have someone in your life and keep looking, or you give in to your desires and urges and just go with what’s out there’s, what others are looking for, which may not match your own.

In the later case, the tough part is not connecting with someone, but handling your thorny conscience that acts as a blocker, an inhibitor.

And if you choose to play the waiting game then there’s always going to be a longing and wanting no matter how much you tell yourself not to chase it  cause when you stop chasing it will find its way to you. But then the hearts wants what the heart wants.

So that leaves you in quandary wondering what to do and how to react but somewhere hoping that you meet someone that matches your vibe, someone who’s looking for the same thing as you do. Someone who’s more or less what you’re looking for.

Till you find the one or find a way to control your emotions and conscience you will have to live with this quandary.
