A Trip... 40 years in the making

It’s strange how you wait all your life to make it to a place and when you get there it feels, like, ok, very meh. I remember all through my growing years, wanting to come out here and live here, just like my cousins. Used to see the life they had and wanted the same life for myself and my family, ok I was a little selfish kiddo, wanted for myself. But as I grew older (and now I am old) the sheen for the place sort of just slowly faded away, to the extent that I began to feel like yeah, i know I am in Dubai.

I know my mum is all excited about the trip, way more excited than I am, after all she gets to go on her third trip abroad, third trip to Dubai, but most importantly she gets to spend it with all her children. So I guess that without a doubt makes her one happy mumma.

Well not that I am acting sullen about the place, ccbehaving like a grinch. Though my perception of it is that it’s a very artificial, very man made place. But then that’s what I have learned from reading about the place. I need to take it in and then maybe change the way I feel about the place.

Already been gobsmacked by the train ride from the Arrivals gate to immigration, passing through the terminals, past the planes and to immigration and baggage  claims. It was one hell of a ride. And after immigration and baggage claims (and a quick trip to Duty Free), it was great to see my sisters, thus completing the family.

The view from my sister’s apartment sure is spectacular, makes you want to go out and explore. And hey that’s just the start of the holidays, makes you curious of what it has in store for you, what does Dubai have in store for you. So yes in away excited to explore the city and see what Dubai has in store. But in the end, the heart is still in Mumbai.

It’s Beginning to look like Christmas

It’s already December
And it could mean one thing
Winter should be here
But then it’s nowhere in sight
And in its stead we have some rain
But no snow, as if it would
In a warm and muggy mumbai

Hey that ain’t the purpose
Of these nonsensical
Whimsical verses
So let’s begin once again
Form the very beginning
And here we go again

It’s already December
And no matter the weather
It can only mean one thing
It’s time to bring on the Christmas cheer
To put up the mistletoe and holly
Cause everyone’s so jolly
Hang up that stocking
Cause Santa Claus is coming to town

It’s time to play those carols
And if there’s no carols on the spin it
We can always sing it
Whether we are B flat or G sharp
We can always go carolling
And ring in that Christmas cheer
Cause we all need a reason to be jolly
We all need a little Christmas

It’s time we put up that tree
Trim the tree, decorate it
Add that partridge to the fir tree
If you don’t have a pear one
Put that star on the highest bough
And let an angel be up there with it
Heralding the festive season

Outside, there may not be snow
Or even some sign of cold
But the people, with their spirits high
Trying hard not to miss a beat
As they shop in their street
Running with the treasures
They have managed to plundered
Ok not plundered but acquired
Or for that matter gathered
For themselves
For the ones who they care
As the street light blink
Bright red and green
Cause soon it will be Christmas Day

The shops are all festive
All ready for Christmas
Trying to draw passerby
With their wears
And what they have displayed
With the mistletoe and holly
And Christmas tree all merry
All ready for all to see it
Filled with shoppers
Wanting to buy their wear

But in the mix of all this milieu
Don forget the reason for the season
The message of love and hope he brings
Put Christ right back in Christmas
Let him be the centre of your rejoicing
So while you put up the Christmas trees
And the mistletoe and holly
You decorate the house
And buy your present
Don’t forget the Christ child
Born those million years ago
In a small little stable

So we need a little Christmas
Right this very moment
And it’s beginning just like that
So Christmas please don’t be late!!!
